May 4: "Return to Sender: Doolittle’s Raid" by David Manual
The history and ramifications of Doolittle’s raid on Tokyo during World War II is explained in this speech, which follows the raid from the cause, to the conception of the plan, to the immediate and far reaching effects.

June 1: "Reading/Columbia Railroad" by John Brown
Railroad and Civil War buffs alike will enjoy the story of how the Reading and Columbia Railroad was built during the Civil War.

July 6: "The Way It Was" by Don Lohr
Growing up in Western Pennsylvania, the speaker talks about life styles in the 1930’s and 1940s and by using actual receipts compares the cost of goods and services of that era to those of the 2000’s.

Aug. 3: "Plain People of Lancaster County" by Calvin Wenger
These are the component of a tremendous group—the Anabaptists. They are approaching five hundred years of existence and have made enormous positive contributions to Lancaster County and the entire country. Learn about their origins, customs, value systems and their purposes for living.

Sept. 14: "Humor of Ben Franklin" by Charles Wenzel
The speaker will share with the audience the wit and humor of our nations most notorious founding father, Ben Franklin.

Oct. 5: "Cambodia" by Lena Lansinger
This travel lecture includes slides and commentary by Lena Lansinger from her trip to Cambodia.

Nov. 2: "Herr House and Farm Museum," by Marilyn Nettles
Built in 1719, the Hans Herr House is the oldest building in Lancaster County and also the oldest site of Mennonite worship in the North America.

Most of our speakers are members of the Lancaster County Speaker’s Bureau. They come with a large range of backgrounds, experiences and educations. We are very blessed to have such vast resources of knowledge in our community. Please join us at the library for one or all of our interesting lectures. Our lectures are free.

Rug Hooking Workshop: Making a Hooked Purse

This is a beginners hooking class featuring an elegant purse pattern. The hand dyed wool will be shaded for you in rich colors on a black background. The art nouveau motif and triangular design creates this piece of wearable art.

The kit includes pattern, wools and hook. Cost is $50.00. Bring a small scissor and sturdy hoop or hooking frame.

The class will include instructions as well as all materials needed for finishing as pictured.

Coffee and tea are provided. Please bring a lunch.

AARP Driver Safety Class - 8 Hour Class

The AARP Driver Safety Class is taught by a certified instructor and includes lecture, video presentations, class discussion and some written class work. There are no tests or behind the wheel instruction.

This is the eight hour course taken over the span of two Saturdays. Those who complete the course will receive a certificate to present to their insurance company to apply for a 5% discount on automobile insurance for residents of the state of Pennsylvania.

Cost for the course is $14.00, $12.00 for AARP members.
Class is limited to thirty (30) participants so please call to reserve your space, 354-0525.

"Maple Sugaring" by Lisa Sanchez

An Afternoon of Wii Gaming

Join us every second Saturday of the month for an afternoon of gaming. If you have ever wanted to learn more about Wii, this is your chance! People of all ages are getting into Wii. Try bowling or tennis, Mario Kart, or be in a Rock Band. There is something for everyone.

Open to every age and skill level. Would like to start a Wii Bowling League.

Expand your search by using the Internet to find a job. More and more employers are looking online for their next employee. What website(s) should I use to find a job? How do I search the website for a job I'm qualified for? Once I found a job I want to apply to, now what? Find out the answers to these questions by attending the Job Searching 101 workshops.

So you were called for an interview. Make the most of this opportunity. Learn how to make a good first impression. Get advice on how to dress, body language, and things you should know to impress the interviewer. Also, what you can do after the interview that might give you the edge over other candidates.
